There are still some old type consumer units out there that use fuse wire and should be replaced without hesitation as its the bigest cause of fire in the home, most fires normally start in the consumer unit.
We work to the latest 18th edition 2023 ammendment 2 regulations and can replace these with metal type units that are sealed and made from non combustible materials to stop fires before they start. All new consumer units now require anti surge devices and RCBO devices.
These old style consumer units are now very few and far between and should be replaced without delay as they offer little protection to the end user and represent high risk of electrocution.
This is new all metal sealed type fuse board/consumer unit that offers a massive jump in safety, being all sealed if a fire does occur it is fully contained inside the box which is perticualy important when consumer units are under stair cases as if a fire occured this could be your escape route to safely get out of your property and evacuate your family to safety.
As many homes these days have a lot of electronic equipment it is abosolutly essential you protect your equipment as there are many power surges on the national grid. In fact at the time of writing this section (Sept 2024) we have replaced three alarm panels in the last week due to power surges/cuts in the Ilkeston area so for a device that can be fitted for less than £100 we think its a good investment.
During September 2024 we had a spate of power cuts due to electrical storms which damaged Ring doorbells and Internet routers to name a few, this could have been avoided.
