There are still some old-style consumer units in use that rely on fuse wire and should be replaced without hesitation, as they are one of the biggest causes of electrical fires in the home. Many electrical fires start in the consumer unit. We work to the latest 18th Edition Amendment 4 Regulations and can replace these with sealed metal units made from non-combustible materials, helping to contain a fire should one occur. All new consumer units now require surge-protection devices and RCBOs.

These old style consumer units are now very few and far between and should be replaced without delay as they offer little protection to the end user and represent high risk of electrocution.

This is a new, all-metal, sealed fuse board/consumer unit that offers a significant improvement in safety. If a fire occurs, it is contained inside the enclosure. This is particularly important when consumer units are located under staircases, as the stairs may be your escape route when evacuating the property.

As many homes now contain a large amount of electronic equipment, it is absolutely essential to protect that equipment from power surges on the National Grid. At the time of writing this section (September 2024), we had replaced three alarm panels in one week due to power surges and cuts in the Ilkeston area.
